The problem nobody sees until it fails
In many offices, cabling grows through patches: one cable for the new computer, another for the printer, one more for the camera at the entrance. Over the years, the rack turns into a tangle where nobody knows which cable goes to which desk, and any change means testing blindly, unplugging something by mistake or spending hours looking for a point.
On top of that, failures that seem to come from the Internet or the WiFi often come from the cable itself: a damaged connector, a badly terminated point or a cable crushed behind a piece of furniture. These are intermittent problems, hard to diagnose, that affect the daily work of small businesses without anyone really knowing why. If your network shows symptoms like these, take a look at our article on the signs that a network needs an audit.
The physical foundation of the network and the WiFi
Structured cabling in Costa Rica is often seen as a construction detail, but it is the foundation for everything else. WiFi access points, switches, security cameras and IP phones all depend on the cable reaching each spot properly. That is why, when we design business networks and WiFi, we also review the cabling: good equipment on poor cabling doesn’t perform as it should.
At SYSCOM we have worked with businesses since 2001, and we plan network point installations around how the space is used: where people sit, where the cameras go, where an access point should be placed and what growth is expected.
How we work
We start with a free assessment visit to see the condition of the cabling and the rack. Based on that we propose which points to install, which to relocate and what to do with what already exists. During installation we focus on three things: orderly routes, consistent labeling between each point and its rack port, and testing of every network point before handover.
Rack and cabinet organization is a central part of the work: cables neatly dressed and grouped, accessible equipment and room for maintenance without unplugging anything by accident.
Moves, expansions and new equipment
Times of change are the best moments to do things right. If your company is moving, expanding the office or about to install cameras or IP telephony, the office voice and data cabling can be planned from the start, instead of being added later with patches. We do on-site work in San José and the rest of the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM), and outside it with prior scheduling, and if necessary we schedule it at night or on weekends.
The result is an office where every cable has its place and its name, and where future changes are made on an orderly foundation.
