The limits of a traditional phone system
Many small businesses in Costa Rica still depend on a phone system installed years ago in a cabinet full of cables. It works, but every change costs money: adding an extension means running cable, moving someone to another office requires a technician visit and, when someone leaves the office, they can no longer be reached on the company number. If there are branches too, each location usually has its own telephony, with no easy way to transfer calls between them.
IP telephony for businesses changes that model. Calls travel over the data network and the phone system is managed through configuration. At SYSCOM, serving businesses since 2001, we recommend Yeastar phone systems for this type of project. As a Yeastar partner we know the platform well, and we use it in our own company: the live chat and web calls on this site run on our Yeastar system.
One phone system for the office, the road and the branches
With an IP PBX, an extension is no longer tied to a desk. The same internal number can ring on the office IP phone, the mobile app or the computer. That makes remote work easier and lets salespeople or technicians on the road answer as if they were at the office, with the company’s identity.
Branches are integrated as well. An office in San José and another in Guanacaste can share the same phone system, dial each other by extension and be managed from one place. On top of that come features that organize call handling: an auto attendant that guides callers (“press 1 for sales”), call queues for when everyone is busy and different rules for business hours and after hours.
For companies with customers or suppliers abroad, we also offer international calling over the Internet and have DIDs from many countries available. A DID is simply a phone number from another country that rings on your phone system: a customer abroad dials a local number in their country and the call reaches your company like any other.
How we migrate you to VoIP
Migrating to VoIP shouldn’t leave the company without phones for a single day. We start with an assessment of how telephony is used today and of the state of the data network, because call quality depends on it. That is why we place the phones on their own VLAN, separate from other traffic, as part of a business networks and WiFi design. We also review continuity: with two Internet links and forwarding rules, a provider outage doesn’t leave anyone unreachable.
Then we make the change in phases, scheduling the work (even outside normal hours, if your operation requires it), reuse compatible equipment and lines you already have, and train your staff on the basics. What changes for your business
With your telephony on an IP phone system, adding or moving an extension is done through configuration, without running cable. Requests are logged in the Soporte Digital portal and, according to your contract, we manage the phone system remotely throughout the country, with on-site visits in the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM).
